Other villages on Sylt Island
Connoisseurs and artists believe that Sylt cannot be described - it has to be experienced. Even the journey to this utterly exceptional island across Hindenburgdamm (the embankment through the sea from the mainland to Sylt Island) via the motorail train is unusual. As soon as the train accelerates and you can see nothing but water to left and right or just the empty
landscape of the mud flats, the charm of this north Frisian island starts to have its effect.
The Sylt line of dunes extends over 36km from List and the so-called elbow in the north southwards to Hörnum and consists of barely imaginable quantities of the finest holiday sand. It is hardly overcrowded over wide stretches, even during peak season.
The best way to explore the island is to get on your bicycle. The entire north-south route of the former island railway is now a cycle path, which extends over more than 30km.
